SFED MANIPUR
Society for Empowerment of the Disabled (SFED) is a not for profit voluntary organization based in Moirang of Bishnupur District, Manipur which is 43 Kms. away from the Capital City Imphal. The Society has chosen Moirang as their area of operation as there were no organization in the area providing services for persons with disabilities , elderly persons and women and child development though the need for the same was great in the area due to poverty , illiteracy , inaccessibility etc.
Our Society is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1989 under the Government of Manipur vide Registration Number 8 of 2008 dated 6th August, 2008 and Society has been registered as institution for providing rehabilitation services to the PWDs under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act. 2016 (Regd. No. 79 of 2010) under the Directorate of State Social Welfare, Department of Disabilities Cell, Government of Manipur.
The organization had started the dream project ,” Thangjing Special School for the Disabled “in the year 2008 – 2009 because of the felt need of persons with disabilities and their families in the District . The project was initiated with the vision that persons with disabilities are adequately rehabilitated and mainstreamed in the society.
Our project , “Thangjing Special School for the Disabled ” (Mental Retardation) which was continuing well without any financial support from the Ministry was liven up with the sanction of Grant in Aid from the financial year 2014 – 2015 . With the continuing support from the Ministry, the morale and confidence of the organization was boosted up and various programmes were taken up during the year for empowerment of persons with disabilities in the District. special needs are provided residential services and Day Scholars with special needs are attending our Thangjing Special School at Phiwangbam Leikai Moirang
We are providing the following services to the beneficiaries.

4. Hostel for both Boy’s and Girl’s
5. Vocational Training and Production
6. Parents Training Programmes
7. Early Intervention for children with special needs
8. Computer Training Programme for Persons with Disabilities
9. Women and Children Development Programmes
10. Training for sports and recreation
Our project Special School for children with Intellectual Disabilities at Phiwangbam Leikai, Moirang is successfully providing rehabilitation and education to many beneficiaries who attend our day care centre and beneficiaries who are provided residential services at our centre . We are providing with Physiotherapy Therapy, Speech therapy, Special and remedial education, Medical check up, Training for sports and recreation, Music and Yoga etc.
Early intervention unit which was started in collaboration with Spastic Society of Manipur from 2016 has been extremely successful showing dramatic improvement in children who are coming for therapeutic treatment from as young as six months of age. This group consists of all types of children with disabilities below 6 years of age. The progress seen in the children in this unit has been steady and holistic i.e. the children have shown improvement not only in motor development but also in speech and language development and development of social skills.
Society for Empowerment of the Disabled (SFED), Moirang, Bishnupur District, Manipur has been actively Empowering Persons with Disabilities in Bishnupur through our various projects including School for the Disabled Children i.e. Special School for Children with Mental Retardation , Scheme for Sports Development for Persons with Disabilities , Women Self Help Groups etc in the past years.
